Amy LeSage, LAc, Dipl. OM (Licensed Acupuncturist, Diplomate in Oriental Medicine)
Amy LeSage earned her Masters' degree in acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) from Yo San University of TCM in Los Angeles. She is a licensed acupuncturist by the state of California. She is also a Diplomate in Oriental Medicine as licensed by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM).
Prior to studying Chinese medicine, Amy attended California State University, Long Beach, where she received her Bachelor’s degree in magazine journalism. She worked as a writer and editor for a top trade magazine, receiving several awards for her writing and editorial achievements. After seven years, she decided to try working as an advertising copywriter for a major medical publishing company. While creating an ad campaign, she spoke with an acupuncturist. The first she had ever known. She thoroughly researched the topic for the campaign. From there, it seems the road was paved with people, experiences and situations that lead her to practicing TCM.
“My life’s journey is about striving to achieve balance of mind, body, and spirit, while being of service to others. After much searching, I discovered that the intention of acupuncture and oriental medicine, as well as tai chi and qi gong, is to help people find and maintain balance within their unique lifestyles.”
One of the most profound experiences leading Amy to TCM has been her involvement with Sifu Richard Tsim and the Lau Kune Do (LKD) Temple of Martial Arts in Long Beach. Sifu Tsim’s classes regarding Chinese medicine philosophy as well as his tai chi and qi gong instruction helped inspire Amy to earn her Maters’ degree in TCM. Amy is still a LKD student and a member of the temple’s Board of Directors. For the past five years, she has been a LKD teacher of tai chi and qi gong under the direction of Sifu Tsim of China, who founded the art of Lau Kune Do in 1975.
Amy’s personal experiences with TCM have confirmed her beliefs that it really works. As a child, she had chronic bronchitis, and as an adult, she suffered from three to four debilitating sinus infections per year, each lasting for as long as a month. With consistent acupuncture and herbs, her sinus infections were eliminated. She continues to receive regular acupuncture treatments and use herbs to promote health.
“It’s my belief that to be most helpful to others, I first have to take care of myself. That means doing the things I love, like practicing tai chi, spending time with friends and family, hiking, camping, meditating, enjoying my favorite music, and receiving regular acupuncture treatments. It also means that I’ll continue to learn.”
Amy continues to grow as an acupuncturist and Chinese herbalist by pursuing continuing education coursework. She looks forward to becoming an indispensable partner in the continued growth and health care experience of her patients.
In addition to acupuncture, Amy offers other tools to assist the patient on his or her journey to optimal health – high quality Chinese herbal medicines, qi gong exercises, tai chi, Oriental bodywork, a balanced approach to nutrition, and more.
“All of these modalities help circulate the body’s energy, or life force, so people can more readily go with the flow of life. They'll be better able to manage stress and more willing to see problems as opportunities for growth. Hence, people can live more balanced, healthier, fuller, and longer lives.”
