Dr. Mark deDubovay was born and educated in Los Angeles. As director of the Advanced Wellness Center he enjoys providing the best of alternative medicine to the community. Wishing to enhance communication with his patients, he asks to be called Dr. Mark.

He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and in 1995, his Doctor of Chiropractic from the Cleveland Chiropractic College in Los Angles. Dr. Mark is a former member of the faculty and currently serves as a supervising doctor for chiropractic interns. He is a past director of the Long Beach Area Chiropractic Society.

Dr. Mark was invited to practice at the prestigious STATIC Clinic in Bologna, Italy. The clinic specializes in pain treatment and disorders of the spine. Its staff includes the best chiropractors from America who work alongside an international group of medical orthopedists and physical therapists. He worked at the clinic for three years before joining a private practice in Paris, France where the focus was on combining chiropractic with progressive holistic medicine. Dr. Mark’s international experience greatly broadened his knowledge of other chiropractic techniques and holistic medicine. And to this day, he continues to speak Italian.

With a firm commitment to education and research, Dr. Mark is able to offer his patients the latest in alternative medicine. This pursuit of education led to his certification by the American Naturopathic Certification Board as a Traditional Naturopath. His research also lead him to become an expert in the exciting field of cold laser therapy. Dr. Mark holds the distinction of being appointed by the FDA as a primary investigator in a research study on the benefits of cold laser therapy for osteoarthritis of the hand.

Pursuing a holistic approach to his patients, Dr. Mark offers preventative health measures, as well as treatments of chronic conditions. With children and the elderly in mind, he has developed safe and progressive techniques combining very gentle chiropractic and a broad range of natural healing solutions using naturopathic approaches. His goals are to support each patient uniquely while uncovering any and all underlying causes that may compromise health or create pain. He then utilizes the diverse resources of the Center and the broadest range of proven natural treatments to provide each patient with the most effective care and empower them to a life of greater health, happiness, and balance.

Dr. Barbara Shur grew up in New York City. She received her Doctor of Chiropractic in 1985 from the Cleveland Chiropractic College in Los Angeles and is a former member of the college faculty. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Sciences from California State University Long Beach Area where she also earned an Athletic Training Certificate.

Throughout her education and training Dr. Shur worked as a physical therapy aid. She assisted patients through respiratory and stroke rehabilitation as well as instructing geriatric and post-surgical patients how to walk and regain independence. “I found tremendous fulfillment in assisting patients to improve their health and quality of life. It was my desire to help people on a different level that led me to chiropractic medicine.”

Dr. Shur is a record-holding long distance runner and her practice includes many athletes. She has trained in a range of techniques including Sacro-occipital (utilizing the gentle force of gravity to balance the spine through adjustment of the pelvis) and cranial adjusting (subtle manipulation of the skull bones to insure proper natural movement). Because of this unique expertise, she was invited by a large chiropractic family practice in Australia to work alongside their experts and participate as an instructor in their national seminars.

I first met Dr. Shur over twelve years ago when she assumed the chiropractic practice where I had received treatment for several years prior. I was immediately impressed with her abilities and her concern. She has treated me for a variety of complaints through the years including my recent auto accident injury and always gets me back in shape fast. She also has attended my daughter, Amanda, for sports injuries and a serious automobile accident injury. A runner herself, Dr. Shur gave special attention to Amanda’s running complaints and, further, served as a valued role model and friend during Amanda’s developing teen years. – Sandy M.

Dr. Sese Novas was born and raised in Spain and maintains her fluency in Spanish. She was introduced to holistic care by her father, who refrained from using pharmaceuticals and instead opted for home remedies and nutritional therapies.

Dr. Novas’ interest in natural ways of healing intensified as a result of her athletic activities. This led her to become a certified massage therapist. She developed an interest in chiropractic after experiencing its healing power following a car accident, which left her with intermittent back pain. She was soon enrolled at the Los Angeles College of Chiropractic. She first earned a Bachelor of Science degree and then completed her Doctor of Chiropractic in 1993. Dr. Novas is a member of the California Chiropractic Association.

Her goals are to optimize her patients’ health by: improving posture; resolution of muscle imbalances; proper alignment of the spine resulting in healthy nerve function to the muscles and organs; pain relief; as well as treatment for related symptoms that compromise health like headaches, allergies and digestive difficulties. Dr. Novas uses a full range of soft tissue techniques, capitalizing on her background as a massage practitioner.

Dr. Novas is a firm believer in the team approach to wellness and will refer patients to other practitioners in the Center if she thinks their condition would be improved by the consultation. “My main goal as a Chiropractor is to help patients achieve optimal health without the use of drugs or surgery, encouraging them to capitalize on their own ability and desire to improve their health.”

Dedication to physical exercise has inspired Dr. Novas to become an avid runner and a long-time practitioner of the martial arts. She has also incorporated yoga into her regular regiment and views it as a perfect complement to her exercise routines. She enjoys the amazing benefits this ancient art has to offer.

Married with two beautiful daughters, Dr. Novas is a very involved volunteer at their school and with their Girl Scout troop. She combines her love for martial arts and kids by teaching karate to children. She has also been involved with Soroptimist International of Long Beach Area, a volunteer service organization for business and professional women who strive to improve the lives of women and girls.

Dr. Jaimie Torromeo is passionate about chiropractic care. “I believe you can restore your health no matter how old or sick you feel so you can continue to do all the things in life you want to for as long as you want to!”

A Long Beach native, Dr. Jaimie has played competitive volleyball from fifth grade all the way through her days at Pepperdine University and playing for the Arkansas Razorbacks. The physical demands of competitive sports has given her a exceptional understanding of the healing properties the body has once the spine is restored to its intended position. Her goal is to assist the body to function optimally by improving overall health, spinal alignment and rehabilitation in sports and chronic injuries.

Dr. Jaimie uses Diversified Technique and manual muscle treatments to help patients of all ages! She treats patients during and after pregnancy, newborn babies, people well into their 90’s, and everyone in between!

She is very active in the sports community and continues to train with Crossfit and Marathons. In 2015 she won a regional Crossfit competition beating out women in her age group in her area.

Dr. Lean-Lyons focus is in family practice. She utilizes a multitude of modalities, including botanical medicine, clinical nutrition, homeopathy, nutritional supplementation and various other healing therapies, to support her patients on their way to reaching their optimal vitality.

Her practice addresses many illnesses and conditions ranging from everyday colds and coughs to thyroid dysfunction, chronic diseases like diabetes and autoimmune conditions, to cancer support. Dr. Lean begins by evaluating her patient’s gastrointestinal health and its current state of function. She believes you are what you eat! The function of your gut is of utmost importance because it is where many diseases begin. Making sure you are eating right for your body and healing your gut is a priority. She is also very interested in environmental medicine, especially with its contribution to a women’s health, including such issues as fertility and other concerns like endometriosis, polycystic ovary syndrome and premenstrual syndrome.

Dr. Lean-Lyons graduated with honors from Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in Tempe, Arizona, receiving her Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine. During her journey in medical school, she enjoyed working with an advocacy group on her campus called N-ACT, where she had a passion for lobbying and spreading the word of Naturopathic medicine. Dr. Lean-Lyons worked in a variety of patient settings including pediatrics, drug and alcohol rehab centers, chiropractic medicine, women’s medicine, hydrotherapy, family practice, environmental medicine and many others. These experiences allowed her to develop into the well-rounded doctor that she is today.

Dr. Lean-Lyons enjoys gardening, cooking, traveling around the world, eating out at new and fun restaurants and working out! Originally from Long Island, New York, she’s now residing in Long Beach Area where she appreciates living by the beach with her husband and pug named Buddha!


Chanelle Anderson, BA, CMT

Certified Massage Therapist

As a massage therapist, my main objective is to help you, the client, reach an ideal state of relief, health and relaxation.

Chanelle began working at the Advanced Wellness Center in 2003 after earning her Bachelor of Arts degree in Family and Consumer Science from California State University, Long Beach Area and her Certification in Massage Therapy from Bryman College (now Everest College).

In addition to working at the Center, Chanelle teaches Massage Therapy at Everest College and received the Teacher of the Year Award in 2008. “I enjoy helping students get a fresh start with a new career, as many of them have had tough lives. It is very rewarding to have such an impact on people and to watch them succeed in ways they may not have thought possible.”

Chanelle is a member of the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA). She feels that her association with AMTA and her pursuit of continuing education in massage therapy and alternative medicine allow her to provide the best possible care to her patients.


Blake Peterson, CMT

Certified Massage Therapist

Blake specializes in sports massage with a holistic approach. He takes pride in his work and strives to provide the best possible massage for every client.

After working for several years in the printing trades, Blake yearned for a healthier profession where he could use his hands and work with people, not machines. A friend convinced him to check out a massage school where he was able to audit a class. He knew then that massage was what he wanted to do with his life.

After 1,400 hours of certification coursework followed by numerous educational seminars and workshops since, Blake has refined his massage technique. In 1995, he earned his Certificate in Massage Therapy from the Mesa Institute School of Massage in Orange County. While he continues to learn and add new approaches to his form of the healing arts, he considers his specialties to be deep tissue and trigger point therapy.

No two people are exactly alike. Every person has unique stresses in their lives that manifest within their bodies. It’s my job to find those physical knots and work them out.

Blake is an accomplished musician and has been playing bass in a band for more than 19 years. He also manages and plays with an over 30 men’s soccer league. In whatever free time he has left, Blake enjoys spending time with his American Bulldog, Booksta.
